When planning field trips for your students, you may want to consider taking your students on a performance to Nashville. Performance tours to Nashville give students the perfect opportunity to perform amongst professional musicians, while also experiencing the culture of a new city.

Here’s some of our favorite highlights taken from a recent Nashville trip:

Students Have a Variety of Sights to See

Sights to see include Broad Street, the Grand Old Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. I always thought that Nashville revolved around country celebrities, but upon my arrival, I soon found that this city has so much more to offer. It turns out that the best kept secrets of Nashville may just be the biggest reasons to visit the “Music City”.

A student trip to Nashville, as a musician and country music fan, is a dream come true.

Nashville is Known as the “Music City”

Nashville is known as the “Music City” but not only because of the radio station WSM launch of a broadcast in 1925 that would be called the “Grand Ole Opry”. It’s also not just because many stars of the country music industry call Nashville home such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Taylor Swift. According to Bill Friskics-Warren of the Nashville Scene “the city boasts first-rate symphony and chamber orchestras, scores of professional-class church choirs, gospel quartets, a burgeoning hip-hop scene and thriving rock, pop and jazz undergrounds”. Many student performance tour leaders are surprised to learn this.

Performance Opportunities Are Everywhere

I met and saw more budding musicians, vocalists and songwriters perform than I could ever have imagined. These folks are talented, hard-working, friendly and truly inspirational in their quest to make it to the top. Venues are found everywhere. High school band, choirs and orchestra trips to Nashville can join right in by performing alongside these folks at the Opry Mills shopping center, the Hermitage, or by participating in a recording session at Studio B, the studio where Elvis recorded.

Students Will Gain Real Music Experience

One evening my customized high school ensemble trip attended a songwriters’ round table. Four or five songwriters performed alone and in collaboration with each other, songs that they wanted to test on an audience. When a writer paused unsure of what lyrics to sing or chords to play another would jump right in adding their own flair to the tune. Soon we all were doing the same from the audience.

Enjoy Amazing Food & Entertainment

Dinner entertainment is taken to a new level in Nashville and can include a visit to the Wild Horse Saloon includes dining on Southern Smokehouse cuisine in Riverfront Park. Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, and Little Big Town are entertainers that have graced the stage at the Wild Horse. Diners are also treated to line dancing lessons.

The General Jackson Showboat takes you on a cruise down the Cumberland River. You’ll enjoy views and a freshly prepared meal by the boats chefs while watching toe-tapping entertainment in the boat’s two-story Victorian theatre. The second oldest Barn dinner theatre in the nation, Chafin’s Barn, makes its home in Nashville. During dinner there you’ll be treated to comedies, musicals and mystery performances.

All of this, and so much more, makes Nashville one of our hottest and trending customized high school band trips. We hope you will consider taking your students there to explore the music and culture in this upcoming year.
